]]>1968
Imagine a fabric ideal for outdoor living, unchallenged for over 40 years. Åke Nordin transformed rejected tent material into the durable G-1000 fabric in 1968, making it the mainstay of the iconic Greenland Jacket, a lasting product from Fjällräven.
2010
In 2010, G-1000 Silent addressed noise in outdoor fabrics, featuring a brushed, smooth texture for quiet movement. Retaining G-1000's qualities, it's ideal for conservation and hunting. The same year, G-1000 Lite debuted as a flexible version with rip-stop threads, offering tear resistance and light waxing for summer outings.
2011
Introduced in 2011, G-1000 Eco is Fjällräven's eco-conscious fabric, woven from recycled polyester and organic cotton, minimizing environmental impact. G-1000 Heavy Duty, double-treated with Greenland Wax, enhances durability in resilient products.
2017
The latest in the G-1000 range, G-1000 Air, enhances trekking comfort in warm conditions. Its lightweight, unwaxed design with a looser weave maximizes breathability. G-1000 Air Stretch, a high-quality, organic cotton, and recycled polyester blend, ensures durability and unrestricted movement in outdoor garments.

Before stashing your beloved down jacket away, make sure it's clean. Follow the care instructions on the label or website to launder your jacket properly. We recommend to not dry-clean your down jacket as this can damage the down filling. Another tip to remember is to repair holes while they are small to avoid them from getting bigger.
2. Dry Thoroughly:
Once cleaned, it's crucial to ensure your down jacket is completely dry before storing it. Use a large-capacity dryer on low heat, and toss in a few clean tennis balls or dryer balls to help fluff up the down clusters. This step is essential to prevent mildew and odours from developing during storage.
3. Store in a Breathable Bag:
Avoid sealing your down jacket in plastic, as this can trap moisture and lead to mould growth. Instead, opt for a breathable garment bag or a cotton storage sack. These materials allow air circulation, preventing any potential moisture build-up while still protecting your jacket from dust.
4. Choose a Cool, Dry Location:
Store your down jacket in a cool, dry place to prevent any potential damage. Avoid areas with extreme temperature fluctuations, as these can impact the performance of the down insulation. A closet or storage space inside your home is ideal.
Properly storing your Fjällräven down jacket after the winter months is a small yet important investment in its longevity. By following these easy steps, you can ensure that your favourite winter companion will be ready to embrace you with warmth when the next cold season arrives. Happy adventures, and may your down jacket continue to keep you snug for many winters to come!
Care. Repair. And love your gear longer.

]]>While the world has changed immeasurably since a youthful Nordin began the brand, Fjallraven itself is steadfast in its core mission. They continue to innovate, and their roots remain very much in the outdoor environments that helped launch them. The popularity of genuine outdoor brands has never been greater than it is now. The pandemic and a shift towards nature has seen fashion embrace the wilderness like never before.
Beyond its traditional environs, Fjallraven found a niche in fashion that began to grow organically more than 20 years ago. Now an established contender alongside familiar faces like The North Face and Patagonia, the Arctic Fox enjoys popularity away from its traditional core consumer.
Despite this, the brand remains as true as ever to its roots. Make no mistake, while the distinctive circular logo has become more and more prominent away from the trees and mountains, this is a brand with its feet firmly planted in nature.
As part of its commitment to celebrate this provenance, the brand hosts the Fjallraven Polar, an immersive expedition that takes in all the most inhospitable elements the Arctic can throw at those involved.
We here at My Fox Bag were delighted to find ourselves offered a much-coveted space on this year's Taste of the Fjallraven Polar.
Our own Buyer, Tom Jacques-Milner has just returned from a once-in-a-lifetime trip, which brought together 20 people from across the globe for a 300km dog sledding expedition across the arctic tundra. For six days, the participants drove their own dog sled across the vast landscapes of northern Scandinavia, experiencing a world completely different from their own.. On his back Tom had everything he needed for the 28-hour journey, ahead of Tom was his own pack of sled dogs, doing the heavy lifting both literally and metaphorically. The journey started in the Jukkasjärvi area of Swedish Lapland, around 17km east of Kiruna. The journey then saw Tom and his compatriots travel north through Sevujärvi, Kattuvuoma, Råstojaure and Pälstsa – one of Europe’s largest areas of permafrost – before finishing at the edge of the Norwegian fjords in Signaldalen.
We'll be documenting Tom's journey this week and in doing so, showing you a side of Fjallraven few customers are likely to experience first-hand. This is what sets the old hands of Sweden apart and keeps them at the forefront of the outdoor lifestyle, trend, or no trend.

]]>With a great turn out, the walk was well received, Store Manager Darren shared “it was great to get outdoors with the community. People often travel afar to find a nature trail to trek; however, you don’t have to travel too far from Manchester to be at one with nature”.
The day started off at the Fjallraven Manchester store where participants were offered coffee and pastries before the walk began. The Fjallraven Manchester store offered free gifts to those who attended which many seemed pleased about, who doesn’t love a free gift? Those who joined the walk were also invited back to the store after the walk had finished where they browsed the latest Fjallraven pieces.
During the walk participants got to share their love for the outdoors and nature together, trekking through the historic canal towpaths, pedestrian walkways, urban parkland and the trans Pennine trail to trace largely traffic-free and quiet route from the city centre to the verdant Mersey valley.
Be sure to keep checking back to see when the next Fjallraven Manchester Store will take place, you won’t want to miss it.

Every year, Fjällräven reaches out to an established artist for a fresh take on the iconic Kånken bag, where the bag can act as a canvas for original expression and thoughts.
This year’s Kånken Art Project sees the brand team up with Swedish photographer, art director, interior architect, and multi-disciplined designer Tekla Evelina Severin, whose interpretation of the Kånken design, Free Horizon, is a lesson in colourblocking.
In a statement with Fjällräven, Severin meditates on her exposure to colour, where her work, not just as an artist, but as a wanderer and nature-lover, inspire her. “I started off with a vision of colour interpretation. I found a very strong connection both in nature and in the backpack’s design. An idea about the colour blocking pattern by nature itself started to take shape.”
The art project has resulted in three new colourways, all inspired by Severin’s favourite environments: warm, sunny latitudes, rugged archipelago cliffs and crimson glowing poppy fields in pink sunsets.
Expanding on the colourblocking, Severin decided that she wanted to work with colour in the same way and scale that nature does. “That’s when the horizon theme came about, because what is bigger and more splendid than a straight and open horizon line?”
The Kånken Art program is part of the Arctic Fox Initiative, with 1% of every purchase from the Kånken Art ’22 going directly to their work. It’s a way for Fjällräven to create engagement around ideas and projects that put nature first.

Ake Nordin, Fjallraven’s founder, had the aim of creating functional and innovative outdoor products. This aim is still at the forefront of the brand today – and they certainly deliver.
The intention of the Kanken Classic design was to help improve the posture of Swedish school children suffering with back pain caused by outdated, traditional, shoulder bags. Now, over 40 years later, the Kanken Classic is not only a functional product but has become an international must-have fashion accessory, available in more than 50 colours.
Fjallraven has expanded throughout the years, creating an immediately recognisable range, offering more practical and revolutionary designs that have become almost as popular as the famous Kanken Classic.
The early 2000’s saw the launch of the Kanken Mini, followed by the Kanken Laptop Bag and Kanken Totepack in the late 2000’s. Kanken offers an extensive range of utilitarian accessories and effective products that dominate the industry.
This year has been a predominant year for Kanken due to their new ‘Kanken Me’ feature. Available on Fjallraven’s website, ‘Kanken Me’ allows customers to personalise the colours of each compartment of the bag, allowing them to express their personalities and create their own unique Kanken Classic.
Here at My Fox Bag, we feel privileged to own one of the first Kaken Classic bags that were made. Comparing the newest Fjallraven items to the original pieces, it’s clear that the iconic design has barely changed since its release, inspiring various other brands and creating a benchmark for similar products. The Kanken Classic has become a recognisable product around the world, it’s fun and appealing yet simple aesthetic is everyone’s favourite.

G-1000 | Adaptable For A Lifetime In Nature
Fjallraven use G-1000 material in a wide range of their products from backpacks to jackets. G-1000 is a dense fabric made from 65% polyester and 35% cotton, and by using Greenland Wax, it’s adaptable to a wide range of different climactic conditions. By adding Greenland Wax, G-1000 products become water resistant and even more durable. There are five versions of G-1000 material that all offer their own benefits including G-1000 Lite, G-1000 Heavy-Duty and G-1000 Air.
Waxing your G-1000 Garments
Most G-1000 garments come pre-waxed; but they will need a top-up after regular use. By adding Greenland Wax it will add water resistance to your garment and will enhance its wind-resistant properties. Adding Greenland Wax to your garments, will keep you protected against all weather conditions, wherever your adventures may take you.
Made from a mixture of beeswax and paraffin, Greenland Wax is a simple, nature-inspired product that helps protect yourself and your garments from the challenges faced in the outdoors.
Waxing is pretty easy to do. Just remember these three steps: apply; heat; repeat.
Take the block of Greenland Wax and rub it with long, smooth strokes against the fabric leaving behind a thin, even layer. You’ll want to apply some pressure when you do this, but not too much that your movement becomes jerky.
Using an iron (or a hairdryer) on low to moderate heat, melt the wax into the fabric. Again use long, even strokes. Greenland Wax melts at between 55°C and 60°C (131-140°F), so try to keep the iron temperature around this point – you don’t want the wax to get too runny. Don’t forget to wipe off the iron after use before ironing other garments.
This step isn’t always necessary, but if you want to make the fabric even more water resistant, repeat the process several times rather than applying a single, thick layer of wax. This is a good idea for exposed sections of the garment such as the hood and shoulders or the knees and rear.

]]>On Friday 10th September we were honoured to have artist The Cunning Craftsman, visit our store to paint and customise two Kanken backpacks. The inspiration behind the customisation was based around the rural and urban parts of Manchester as well as Fjallraven's core values; nature and sustainability.
The Craftsman started the process by sketching out a rough design on each bag before he displayed his artistic skills with paint.
Here you can see the finished pieces where The Cunning Craftsman has showcased a distinctive artistic style. It is clear that he has taken inspiration from humanities impact on nature.
It was great to have The Cunning Craftsman visit our store in Manchester and to see so many people stop by to watch these art pieces come to life.

]]>This unique Kånken backpack is made from Pine Weave, a new 100% plant-based fabric made from spruce and pine trees sustainably grown in northern Sweden. It is a Kånken that dreams big, with the same reliable Fjällräven functionality you’ve come to expect from any Fjällräven product.
Tree-Kånken backpacks combine the iconic Kånken simplicity with slightly altered details that give it its own identity. With a printed, reflective logo, flat front pocket and straps for securing items underneath. The fabric is waxed with a new and fluorocarbon-free special formula for a nice pre-washed look.
Using a 100% renewable, bio-based raw material taken from sustainably grown spruce and pine trees, Tree-Kånken introduces the lyocell process to the hardware sector. To create the excellent, durable filament yarn required for backpack fabrics, production includes strict controls on raw materials (pulp) and processes.
The Pine Weave is durable by the construction (weaving method) and longevity is further enhanced by using a water-based PU coating, which is combined with wax (solvent-free recipe) to give an attractive patina.

]]>The Kånken is perhaps the most iconic rucksack of all time, worn by people of all ages and tastes, throughout the world. It comes in more than 50 base colours and, unlike many of its rival products, it’s an item that really does look better with age and wear, developing a proud patina.
With its simple rectangular design and equally simple branding, it’s a bonafide design classic, up there with the Casio F-91W, the Parker Jotter, the adidas Stan Smith and more.
The Kånken was first released in 1978, designed specifically for schoolchildren.
It may be a fashionable product these days, but its inception back then was purely functional. The intention of the Kånken was to improve Swedish schoolchildren’s posture and to solve the back-pain that many of them were suffering, supposedly due to the old-fashioned shoulder bags that were still prevalent at the time.
Fjällräven's founder, Ake Nordin, had already designed and produced reams of functional outdoor products prior to thinking up the Kånken – always with the goal of innovating and problem-solving. He set the brand up in 1960, and soon his ingenuity had won the favour of Swedish expeditionary teams, who only had eyes for Fjallraven by the end of the decade.
But it was the Kånken's introduction in 1978 that really put the brand in front of the general public.
Sales in that first year stood at a modest 400 units, but the following year, 1979, saw the Kånken become a nationwide phenomenon – with a staggering 30,000 units sold.
Now, more than 40 years later, the Kånken Classic remains unchanged in design and aesthetic, and is still Fjällräven's best-selling product.
However, the Kånken range has expanded further than the Classic, offering justified variations that serve different purposes.
Fjällräven launched the Kånken Mini in the early 2000s – a smaller version for smaller children.
In the late 2000s, the company launched the Kånken Laptop, an enlarged version of the Classic, with padded shoulder straps and a cushioned laptop pocket separate to the main compartment. A perfect example of Fjällräven's constant forward-thinking approach: putting a new spin on a heritage product, in order to meet the needs of the modern consumer.
A Kånken is a genuine investment for life. Constructed from hard-wearing Vinylon F fabric, and with a water-restistant coating that also protects it against damage from everyday dirt, it’s ready to stand the test of time.
We have an all-encompassing range of Kånken backpacks, so whether you want the straightforward Classic or a subtle variation such as the Laptop edition, you’ll find what you need right here at My Fox Bag.
]]>About 71% of the Earth´s surface is covered by the oceans. They produce over half of the oxygen on our planet, they´re the home to over one million species of animals and even more plants. Furthermore, the oceans are the key regulators of the climate. So it´s safe to say that every living thing on Earth is dependent on the health of our seas.
Tragically, estimates indicate that by the year 2050, there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish, unless we seriously change our habits and the way we handle our waste.
Kånken Art ‘21 aims to increase awareness around these problems, but also hopes to inspire change: Since 80% of ocean plastics come from land, our immediate surroundings are a good place to start. Let’s do it together, one piece of plastic at a time.
My Fox Bag will be stocking the entire Kånken Art ‘21 range, with bags going available to buy from June 8th.

]]>The fabrics used in the Re-Kånken are made from 95% recycled materials, and are recyclable themselves. Being made from this singular material makes it much easier for the bag to be recycled in the future. This material is recycled polyester, with one Re-Kånken being made up of eleven recycled plastic bottles. The only visible difference between the original Kånken and the Re-Kånken is the badge, which is embroidered instead of sewn on, giving the bag its own unique identity.
There is also a large environmental gain in how the fabric is dyed. By using a SpinDye technology, the Fjällräven design team were able to radically reduce the amount of energy, water, and chemicals used in production.
Here at My Fox Bag we believe in buying less but buying better, and the Re-Kånken will allow you to do just that. Shop our range of Re-Kånken and Re-Kånken Minis:
]]>So it’s understandable that, on first glance, people are suspicious of the Kånken No. 2, which looks slightly more dressed-up than the rough-and-ready original design.
The leather straps and leather logo are what makes No. 2 immediately distinct from the Kånken Classic, but there’s much more to it than superficial detailing. As with all things Fjällräven, there’s reasoning behind it. It’s not just a sequel for the sake of it.
The main upgrade the No. 2 offers is Fjällräven's G-1000 fabric – a densely woven mix of cotton (35%) and polyester (65%).
The outer and the seat pad are made from G-1000 HeavyDuty Eco, which is coated (on both sides) with the brand’s famous Greenland Wax.
The inside back pocket, meanwhile, is made from G-1000 Lite Eco, which provides durability and protection without adding unnecessary weight.
What does all of this mean in plain English, for the backpack owner?
Greater water-resistance and harder-wearing fabric – making it a year-round backpack.
As mentioned earlier, the leather details are the most immediately apparent, giving it a smarter appearance but also ensuring durability in stress areas.
This added smartness makes the No. 2 a more work-friendly bag – one that looks just as much the part on the commute and in the office as it does out and about, or travelling the world.
Yes it does. You can get it in the following sizes:

]]>We assure you it’s the right choice, but if you need some convincing, here goes.
There’s a lot to be said for keeping it simple. The Kånken is a great example: rectangular, even boxy, with a small front pocket, a circular badge, no-nonsense shoulder straps and a carry handle.
Minimalistic.
That’s what makes the Kånken a true design classic from an aesthetic perspective. But it was not consciously designed to look cool. It was designed that way for a functional reason – to improve the posture of children in Sweden. It just happened to look cool as well.
And now, more than 40 years later, it’s improving postures all around the globe, and is instantly recognisable.
… and gets better with age, just like a good pair of boots, or high-quality denim.
The patina you get on a Kånken is something to behold, whether it’s acquired from round-the-world travelling or just a daily commute. A bit of wear makes it more interesting.
Not only does each Kånken look better once it’s seen a bit of action: it also has the strength to remain your faithful everyday servant for life.
You don’t have to worry about the fabric deteriorating and getting flimsier with every passing year. That’s other backpacks; it’s not the Kånken.
Vinylon F fabric is the key to this – a hard-wearing, dirt-resistant material that comes with a water-resistant coating.
Unlike many design classics, there’s no particular colour that comes to mind for everybody when they picture a Kånken.
For some it’s black, for others it’s brick, for others still it’s graphite, or green, or deep blue, and so on.
Maybe that’s why the Kånken is so enduringly popular, because it allows the owner to choose one that matches their tastes and complements the rest of their wardrobe. Whatever you’re into, there’s a specific colour for you.
The Kånken is more ‘stylish’ than ‘fashionable’, because it isn’t subject to changing trends. It’s a mainstay backpack that people can buy and wear for decades – and many people have done just that.
It’s got increasingly popular since 1978, and that isn’t going to wane any time soon. Each new generation appreciates the Kånken just like the last.
We have an all-encompassing range of Kånken Classic daypacks – so take your pick!
]]>The Fjällräven brand itself, however, has a smaller audience, although it is extremely popular among outdoor enthusiasts and those who just like a good technical jacket.
That’s why we’ve put together this short post: to shout about some women’s Fjällräven products that aren’t Kånken-related.
So here we go…
The instantly recognisable Fjällräven Greenland Jacket is enduringly popular due to its simple yet utilitarian design. It’ll never go out of style, and it will always be up to the task of protecting against the elements.
The version we’re talking about here – the Greenland Eco-Shell Jacket – takes things a step further. Made from the brand’s environmentally-friendly fabric, Eco-Shell, this jacket’s outer layer is made from recycled polyester and is waterproof, with a PFC-free impregnation solution coating it for extra foul-weather defiance.
Now all you have to ask yourself is this: “Do I get it in Black or Dusk?”
Constructed from durable G-1000 Lite material, featuring four-way stretch capability and providing excellent ventilation, the Abisko Lite Trekking Trousers are suitable for active pursuits in all seasons. Two zipped thigh pockets in addition to the two hand pockets give plenty of storage options without compromising on performance.
Alternatively, if you prefer something more streamlined and aerodynamic, opt for the Abisko Trekking Tights (also available in Dark Grey and in Navy).
Also made from G-1000, the Nikka Curved Shorts are sure to see you through the summer in comfort and style, with absolutely no qualms whatsoever in terms of durability. A truly active pair of shorts, ready to tackle any outdoor activity, whether it’s a strenuous climb or a leisurely barbecue.
Again, in classic Fjällräven style, the pocket space is abundant, with two zippered hand pockets accompanied by cargo pockets on each side.
Dark Olive or Black?
Where the Greenland Eco-Shell Jacket provides a heavy-duty option, the High Coast Shade Jacket is purposely lightweight and designed to maximise airflow during warm weather.
Made from Fjällräven's loose-weave G-1000 Air fabric, it provides superb ventilation and is ideal activities where freedom of movement and a breezy feel are required.
Oh, and it’s made from sustainable materials.
(Just to note: it does not provide resistance to rain or wind, and is strictly a fair-weather jacket. If you need some weather-resistance, you’re best off going with an alternative – such as the Stina Jacket, which is constructed from G-1000 Lite.)
A sturdy sweater is a must-have item for everyone, outdoor enthusiasts or not.
You’ll be hard pressed to find anything more reliable than the Ovik Sweater, which is made from 100% ethically produced wool, with jacquard knitting to lock in that warmth. The elbows are reinforced with G-1000 Eco fabric to give some sustainable support at high-stress areas. A true jumper for life.
Our main focus as a retailer is of course Kånken backpacks, but we also stock a wide variety of other Fjällräven products, including women’s clothing and accessories
