Hand painted Kånken Classic backpacks, one of one
The Kånken Painted collection takes the standard Kånken Classic and turns the front panel into a small canvas. Each bag is painted by hand rather than cut from patterned fabric, which is what separates this range from Kånken Graphics and Kånken Art, where the artwork is printed or woven into the material before the bag is made. Here the artwork goes on afterwards, one bag at a time, so brush marks, placement and colour depth vary slightly from piece to piece. That variation is the point.
Only one of each design exists. Stock shows a single unit per bag because there is no second one to order in.
The ten designs
Every animal in the collection earned its place by being unusually hard to kill. The wood frog on the Corn Kånken freezes solid through winter and thaws back to life in spring. The axolotl on the Blackberry can regrow limbs, spinal tissue and parts of its heart. The Saharan silver ant on the Midnight Purple forages at surface temperatures that would kill nearly any other insect, and the horseshoe crab on the Clay has carried roughly the same body plan for over 400 million years.

The bag underneath
Every piece starts as a full Kånken Classic, so nothing about the way it works has changed. The main compartment opens along its full length with a wide zip, taking A4 folders and most 13" laptops flat. There is a zipped pocket on the front and two open pockets at the sides, plus a removable foam seat pad in the rear inner pocket that keeps hard edges off your back and doubles as something to sit on.

Looking after a painted Kånken
Vinylon F handles rain and general grime well, and the usual advice for a standard Kånken is a soft brush with lukewarm water. Treat the painted panel more gently than the rest of the bag, avoid scrubbing directly over the artwork, and keep solvents and machine washing away from it entirely.
